It’s anything with gluten in it, so basically anything containing bread, right? What are some other foods besides (the obvious) bread that a person with celiac disease can’t eat?

I have a bad egg and dairy allergy and I was told that it would be tougher to find food I can eat if I was allergic to gluten. What do you think?

About four years back, an itchy rash began to develop on my arms, torso and legs. It was red in color. It appeared after I, during my summer vacations, got drenched with mud (it was a very moist monsoon). When I scratched it it would break and spread, often bleeding. My legs ended up covered with large yellow-green sores which bled very often. After consulting several doctors,my mother, unsatisfied with their diagnosis, turned to Ayurveda. I was put on a vegan diet during this time (no eggs, no fish, no meat or fungi of any kind). I spent the rest of the vacation (four months) covered in medicine. By the end the rashes had disappeared, but my arms and legs were covered with large, disfiguring black marks.

And every year after,when I went back to my home country for my summer vacations (the place where it all began) the rashes would come back. My mother suspected that it would be a food allergy and tested my resilience to different foods. I noticed that my rashes grew significantly worse the day after I had consumed something with egg, corn, cornflour, white flour (white bread), corn grits, lemon juice and other citrus-based foods (like concentrated orange juice). However, I had no problem with whole-wheat bread, mandarin oranges and popcorn. And my bread allergies never showed themselves in my residential country. A family friend suggested gluten allergies, but I have no history of food allergies (only dust, and that is something else).

There are differences in the country I vacation in. Not really for the sake of vacationing, but my parents insist on visiting our ancestral relatives. It is very moist and rainy there. My residential country is in the middle east and very dry.

It would be very helpful if you could suggest a cause. If you could add a solution and foods to stay away from, I would be much obliged.

I am a teenager, and it is terrible when people shun you because of your physical appearance. And, as you may understand from my language, I am often lonely. I don’t participate insports becasue of this, and have become quiet and unpleasant. I always wear full-sleeved and full-legged clothes so that people don’t stare. I hope you can give me an answer, and I hope I didn’t sound whiny, self-pitying or overly angsty. If so, I apologize.

I have celiac (a gluten allergy) and I know I can have corn, but can I have corn gluten? It’s corn, but is it going to hurt me?

Isn’t that the gluten allergy or something? Could you explain it to me? Just anything you know about it? Or maybe even if you have it?

Well, I need information on it because while I know some things about it because two of my mom’s co-workers have it, I don’t know everything.
All I really know is that it’s an allergy to gluten, and I can’t have bread, flour, wheat, etc.
But..what can I have?
Also, where can I shop to get some good foods?
I live in a small state; Vermont, and there’s no whole foods stores here.
Please help!

The disease where the body can´t absorb any gluten in food, and if eating accidentally too much of it, it causes diarea, blisters on the skin and up to 20% higher risk of cancer in various parts of the body. It can brake out any time of life and is NOT listed as an allergy, but as a genetic disease.

I’ve been just recently researching gluten intolerances, because I think I might have several of the symptoms. I am female around 20 years old, and although I haven’t put two and two together until now, I think I may have started developing some of the symptoms around 16 or 17. I always ate a ton of cereal in high school, and towards the end I started getting terrible diarrhea and bloating. Also the most terrible tasting burps. I’m pretty sure I’m anemic, and bleed like crazy whenever I get cut. I have a very light bone structure and very low bone density. When I got to college, I started feeling fatigued when exercising after a few months, and ascribed it to overtraining and poor diet (which it most likely was). Now for the past few months I have been eating a diet similar to the South Beach Diet, and have significantly cut my carb intake. I think this has helped my digestion greatly, since I don’t have the severe diarrhea or bloating that I do when I eat cereal, pasta, and flour. Also, come to think of it, my mom gets indigestion as well when it comes to eating certain wheat products, though I don’t know exactly the extent of it.

I’m wondering if it would be worth it to go to a doctor and see what kind of allergy/possible celiac disease I might have, and how severely I need to restrict my diet. Any advice?

I’m a 16 year old girl, always been convinced i’ve had a problem. In the last 6 weeks i have realised it could be celiac disease.
I have some of the symptoms, mainlymy syptoms are: lack of energy, stomach pains, gas, irregular periods, spots, migraines.
Am i right in thinking iys a gluten allergy, and should i go to a doctor?

My phsycian said she couldn’t do any food allergy test. Where else can I go to confirm that I have gluten-intolerance so I can advise my mom to modify her diet too? We both suffer from recurrent canker sores and frequent diarhhea. I lately relate my problems with consumption of gluten. But I hope to get a firm answer from medical professional. Thanks a lot!
