I’m 13 years old and I’m trying to lose 10 pounds (don’t worry I’m doing this safely). I have a gluten allergy, so I eat very healthy.

I always have fruit for breakfast, and then I either have eggs or gluten free cereal.

I have a salad with veggies, chicken, and cheese for lunch.

When I get home, I normally have homemade popcorn, nuts, or fruit (sometimes I put chocolate on it) for snack.

And for dinner, I have a small side salad, some type of veggie, some type of meat, and either beans, rice, or potatoes.

Sometimes I have an ice cream bar, ice cream, or fruit for desert.

Is this healthy? Am I missing any important food groups? And am I getting enough carbs…if not, what are some foods I can eat that will give me some. (mom doesn’t buy gluten free bread)

Because of allergies, I must follow a wheat-free, gluten-free diet. (I’m also a vegetarian.)

Since being on this diet for a little over a year, I’ve found it impossible to gain weight, and I’ve lost nearly 10 lbs. I feel that I was underweight to begin with, and losing more is not what I need to do.

The main problem for me is figuring out what foods to eat in order to gain weight. I’ve never had a very large appetite, and I find it very difficult to eat in large amounts; although lately I’ve been trying to add foods with higher fat content to my meals (using lots of olive oil, butter, cheese, nuts, etc.)… but it doesn’t seem to be doing anything.

Does anyone have any tips?

My little boy is lactose intolerant/soy intolerant and could have a wheat allergy. He has been SEVERELY constipated for the last 4-6 months. I now give him almond milk with digestive enzymes, rice protein powder and omega oil. He mainly gets prunes/pears, and peas, beans, squash, sweet potato and carrots for his diet. All food is homemade. But at this point, I would like to expand his diet because he is getting older. We have tried him on chicken, which was a winner. I don’t want to put him on specially made gluten free foods until we truly know that he needs to be. But in the mean time, does any one have any ideas on foods I could give him that would be safe for him to eat?
FYI – going to the pediatrician tomorrow to discuss, and for is 1 year check up, and going to make an appt with my naturopath to see what she would recommend.

I have been battling health issues for 7 years. The doctor explained that yeast and sugar make my illness worse. I also have a allergy to nuts. So now I have to change my entire diet, which I am willing to do so I feel better. I just don’t know where to begin! Are there any store’s in the Seattle area that carry dairy free, gluten free, nut free products? What kind of milk can I have? I have so many questions. If anyone has to follow this type of diet please offer any advice, stores, foods, and stores I can shop at that carry such foods. Or even restaurants, where can I go to eat out? Thank you. I’m 16 and I haven’t been diagnosed with celiac disease but I suspect I have at least an allergy to it since I have so many symptoms. I can’t remember in my life ever having regular bowel movements. I was constipated but it usually wasn’t difficult for me to go to the bathroom. I very rarely had diarrhea.

Anyway, I used to be very sick when I was younger, vomiting and things like that. I vomited a few times a month during a period. I had pains in my stomach, I couldn’t walk from pains in my feet on some days and was in constant pain.

Although I suspect that I have this disorder (I’m not even listing 90% of my symptoms) I haven’t gone for a check-up and can’t get diagnosed.

I’ve been gluten free for only a couple of days and although I felt like I had a bit more energy at first, I felt like I was glowing, it’s starting to wear off. I’ve been feeling extremely nauseous and have been having diarrhea (I haven’t had that in SUCH a long time).

Is it normal to go from constipation to diarrhea so quickly after starting a gluten free diet? To feel this awful?

My son is 13wks and has really bad eczema. From birth til about 4wks his skin was dry and peeling but I heard it was natural. His eczema and seborrheic dermatitis started at about 8wks. Time goes by so fast its hard to keep up. However when the doctor recommended I introduce a small amount of cereal to his diet, the eczema seemed to get worse. It was also at this time that I switched from breastmilk to formula and had to switch from the pwdr to concentrate. I don’t know if he has an allergy but the doctors haven’t explored this as of yet. I heard a doctor on a radio show give a woman advice for treating her childs eczema but I didn’t hear it all. I heard her say “gluten-free” and “change the way we eat” but thats all I remember. Has anyone ever heard of gluten-free being a remedy for eczema? If you have tried it, what were the results?
I keep him moisturized to the point he’s slippery but his skin remains extremely dry. Right now we’re doing fragrance free everything and hydrocortisone lotion for the bad areas. If that does work, the next step is to switch from Dreft to Ivory Snow or Tide Sensitive.
I use Beechnut rice cereal – is that gluten-free? If not what are some gluten-free cereals. He’s almost to the jar food stage so can anyone recommend some glutn-free jar foods.
NO website advice unless you have personal experience to back it up!! If I wanted to know what a website recommends, I can look that up myself.

Ok so last year i noticed how djokovic had trouble breathing in his matches and after find out he is allergic to gluten, he has done extremely well. i’ve had some trouble breathing and taken some allergy medications that helped, but make me too drowsy. so im gonna try the gluten free diet and see how it goes. 1). what words should i look out for in food ingredients?? 2) what foods are best? i know fruits veggies meat rice etc are good and anything that says gluten free, but i’m wondering if i missed anything.
i’m not trying to lose weight. im gonna see if i am allergic to it. if it doesnt make much difference i’ll go back to my regular diet

First of all, I do NOT have a wheat allergy or celiac disease. I have simply switched my lifestyle over to a gluten-free one.

After a week, I am pretty good with the diet plan. But it is so hard knowing what has gluten and what does not! Can someone tell me the major things to avoid when going gluten free? Thanks!
I admit- I don’t have a good health reason do start a gluten-free diet.

But with proper nutrition (Getting your grains from rice etc) it is a healthy lifestyle switch. I find I eat a lot of processed carbs, and I’m interested to see if this switch helps to cut my intake of them.

I am thirteen years old, and I was diagnosed with celiac disease a few weeks ago. I also have problems with dairy, and either am soy intolerant or have a soy allergy (I’m not sure which, but I’m leaning more towards an allergy). I was wondering if anyone had any advice for foods/recipies that are gluten, soy and dairy free. I am an awful cook, but since I am going to be living with this for the rest of my life, I am going to have to change that… Anyhow, does anyone have any ideas/advice?
