I have a friend that has been ill for about a YEAR now. She is in her early 50s and it started with an issue they thought with her seizure meds- they took her off and it turned in to a TMJ issue- she had SURGERY to fix it and soon after started having stomach issues- which now has caused her to drop from 120 to 98 lbs in the past year. She cannot wast anything, has been to numerous doctors and no one can seem to figure out what the problem is- she cannot drink milk, and has also basically cut out everything but bread (which burns her stomach) eggs, chicken, rice and pasta. The only thing that irritates her is the bread, but she has been off the seizure meds for almost 3 weeks now and still has acid issues, and it is really scary that no one can seem to offer any clues...anyone have any ideas? I thought gluten, but then she couldn't eat pasta if that was the case- could it maybe be yeast? Does that cause irritation of the stomach lining?

I too would like to leave a post for Re: RAW. There are many different allergies to Milk as there are many different proteins in milk that is why when you have testing for a milk allergy they have to test you for the different proteins to confirm. My son was tested for a general Milk allergy and it came back slightly elevated but when a elimination diet and further testing they found him to be "Allergic" to Dairy/Milk. Intolerance is NOT an allergy as the symptoms are caused by your body not haveing the ability to break down Lactose (sugar). People can be intolerant and just sensitive, this does not mean they have an allergy to Milk . . I am lactose sensitive which means I can eat some lactose containing foods (percentage of lactose) where others make me sick.

Now to add to the original post . . . I use apple sauce for oils, Rice Milk for Milk replacement and If you need to fluff I also add some club soda . . . .that will give you the not so flat effect to your baking . I have to experiment with every recipe and as I do I write it down every time so that when I do get it right I have it on hand. There are lots of good recipe book out there to help you out on your journey with your child!! Egg is a tough on as it is in EVERY thing!! Make sure you are watching your child carefully with immunizations too as they are produced in egg whites! You can contact me any time you have questions!!
Good luck!

Well, you seem to have this problem sorted now. However, if you babysit for any youngsters in future, for your own peace of mind get full details of what they CAN and can't eat before you let the parents out the door!

My best friend is gluten free. Most things that have gluten in it are things like bread and other stuff.
Yes an apple would be perfectly fine! Gluten free stuff is processed and isn't in ANY fruits or veggies! Good luck!

Yes, the apple is o.k. Gluten is found in grain products like wheat, but it is also in many other grains. If the parents have not left suitable food for the child, fruit is a good choice, but no crackers, cereal, pasta, bread, cookies, etc unless they have been made with gluten-free grains.

Apples do not contain wheat or gluten. However, if her parents have said no to apples, then she should not have an apple. What have her parents told her about her diet needs?

Your friend can' t eat wheat, bran, barley or rye. Most large grocery stores have a selection of gluten free products, so you can get rice flour based products.
You can serve lots of fruits and veggies as well as meats with out sauces made with flour. Look for "Gluten Free" on labels. A meal could be broiled chicken, baked potatoes, green beans and sherbet

There is such a wide range of gluten free foods commercially available now that celiacs really are not limited in what they eat. You only have to wander into your nearest supermarket and take a really good look at what is available. I can even buy premade pies, sausage rolls, hamburger buns, cake mixes, pasta - anything really.
